Moving tips and tricks

Updated: Nov 5, 2020

Moving can seem to be such an overwhelming project, but it doesn't HAVE to be! Having a plan and using just a few simple tips and tricks or "hacks" as the kids are calling it these days can make what seems to be a huge project more manageable.

Tip #1: Use Zones

Keeping boxes in zones will make it much easier for movers to keep things together when placing things either in a storage unit or your new home. This will also aid you to keep track of where things should go, should you find extraneous things that need to be packed and were not in their proper place. Example: a fork you found in your child's bedroom needs to be packed with kitchen things, not bedroom things.

Tip #2: Label ALL sides of the box

Labeling ALL sides of the box, not just the top will help to quickly find specific boxes, especially if they are stacked on top of each other in a storage unit. Doing this will save a lot of work moving stacks and stacks of boxes to locate that specific one.

Tip #3: Staging area for supplies

Having a dedicated space or staging area for packing supplies will save time. It is much easier to have a centralized space for all supplies so you can pick what you need instead of looking everywhere for that one special sized box.

Tip #4: Start in one corner

If you have no idea where to start, pick a corner! The thought of packing up an entire home can be overwhelming and make you feel like a deer in the headlights. Instead of the feeling of not knowing where to start, just a pick a corner and start there. You can then work your way around a room and eventually your whole home. Before you know it, you will have a finished project.
